In early April 2021 (yes, 2021), the Dreizin Report—then an email newsletter, not a blog, though I have since posted much of my old material to this blog—wrote that a Russia-Ukraine war is “imminent.”
At that time, the risk was not of a Russian offensive. Rather, for their own domestic political reasons (namely, a 23 percent approval rating), Saint Zelensky’s people were itching to invade and retake the Russian-backed, rebel Donbass.
Ultimately, Uncle Sam must have told his Ukraine colony to cool its jets, and later that year, the initiative shifted to Russia and what Putin wants to do.
But at the time (again, this was early April 2021), I wrote:
It is clear the DoD (the U.S. Department of Defense) is preparing to fight, in the immediate term, using Ukraine, a fairly large-scale proxy war—conceivably with direct U.S. involvement, if things go south for Ukraine, as they likely will—with Russia. It is also clear that several years of relative global peace and stability experienced under President Trump are likely soon coming to an end (in case anyone doubted that would happen.)
In no particular order, I also wrote:
The Democrat party regime is now exceedingly weak—like Napoleon in Moscow, they seem to be in charge, but they are losing direction and (with Senators Manchin and Sinema holding on the filibuster) they can’t produce their intended results—and one obvious solution is a foreign war to rally the masses with some rah-rah chyrons under Wolf Blitzer’s solemn face on CNN.
And:
…..it is a political dead end for Republicans to hand the Democrats a loud “me too” chorus in support of a Biden war-of-choice in Ukraine. Most Republican voters are more concerned with the Democrats turning the U.S. into Russia, than they are about Russia.
Further… (it was bolded in the original)… (and it sounds rather prophetic, given the recent $40 billion)…..
Whatever the case, it’s clear that Uncle Sam needs another project on the scope and potentially the scale of Afghanistan, and Ukraine is now the only obvious candidate. We should expect more funny business, because there is a lot of “turf”, career self-interest, financial profit, and political benefit behind “standing up to Russian aggression.”
And…
ANY RUSSIA HYSTERIA OR ANY FOREIGN CONFLICT NOW WOULD BE A MAJOR DISTRACTION, HIGHLY DISRUPTIVE TO THE “AMERICA FIRST” CAUSE. IF SENATE REPUBLICANS FEEL THEY HAVE TO “RAH-RAH” AND FALL IN LINE BEHIND WHATEVER THE EXECUTIVE BRANCH WANTS TO DO, IT WILL VASTLY STRENGTHEN THE DEMOCRATS AND THE BUSH-CHENEY-RYAN WING OF THE GOP, WHILE DELAYING THE RECONSTITUTION OF A GENUINE, POST-TRUMP REPUBLICAN AGENDA SO AS TO ENSURE THE NATIONAL GOP IS NOT JUST A ME-TOO, DEMOCRAT-LITE PARTY AS IT WAS IN 2015.
I suggested to the Congressional GOP as follows:
Republicans should demand an honest and unscripted explanation from the President himself, to include answering live, unscripted questions from non-Democrat-oriented media outlets.
Republicans should not allow Biden to play the “tough guy” and grandstand off an optional war, while he pawns the coherent talking off on his Secretary of Defense or someone else.
If he owns it, he owns it—he is our Commander-in-Chief. If he is incapable of addressing the nation regarding a major conflict which his government has authorized—especially if he has sent American ships, aircraft, or other assets to Russia’s coasts or borders, where they may be shot at, by mistake or not—he should consider making way for younger leadership.
Congressional Republicans, particularly those in the Senate, are already short on credibility with the GOP base, and with Trump diehards in particular. After years of Russia nothingburgers to bring down our 45th president, rallying to President Biden for an opportunistic proxy war with Russia risks further alienating the base. If the Democrats need a war, it is advisable to let them fight it themselves.
LOL, looks like no one listened to me. Of course, if you’re a Republican senator, it’s easier to just go with the flow, and keep proving your loyalty to the military-industrial lobby and its campaign donations.
We have no obvious leadership in the USA. On the national GOP side, we have a bunch of lazy posers, thinking they are going to win the midterm election by default, because of inflation blah blah, not working for it, no real agenda, no harsh talk at Brandon, nothing.
I’ll be laughing at these fools if the plague comes back and we have another virtual, mail-in election, and they get blasted again.
(To be clear, it will come back soon enough, or there will be another one. Only question is, will it be in time for the midterms?)

No. The conflict is due to two predatory powers (one, of course, immensely stronger and more aggressive) competing for influence beyond their borders.
I believe, there is connection between COVID and the war in Ukraine. They both involve somewhat similar professional propaganda throughout whole West, organized brainwashing, suppression of dissidents. Britain, Europe actively participate in it. The sanctions hurt western population much more than Russia. Most likely, this is designed this way. It was easy to predict. .
Russia was no where near as draconian as the West. I, personally, was back at the gym in late June 2020, have never been vaccinated (Russia had one of the lowest vaccination rates in the world outside Africa) and went about my business as usual as long as I wore a mask. The only real restriction was attending large gatherings like concerts, sporting events or theatres. QR codes were not strictly observed overall and hardly a problem in most provincial towns and cities.

The expression “small ethnic minority, which hates Russia” is a favorite one of Gonzalo Lira. Nuland is considered by him one of this group. Once, not long ago, he explicitly mentioned the term on the Duran show, and both hosts agreed with him. But the Duran, mostly, blames all on “neocons”. They do not use the expression “small ethnic minority”.
“Neocon” and “Jewish” are not interchangeable. There is certainly a small but powerful, policy and media clique in Washington (and some in NY) that is of Jewish descent and of a strongly (in some cases, rabidly) hate-Russia bent. I have come across some of these people myself, in prior jobs. Sure, you can pretend they are just a myth. Of course, most U.S. Jews don’t care about Russia any more than most other Americans.

Regardless of the European country, we’re led by technocrats incrementally implementing neo-liberal economic policies regardless of the obvious societal damage being done. It was clear he was going to hit the Ukie monster pre-emptively when the GRU got wind of the Bayraktar-led blitz on the Donbass enclaves, But I would not have called it in April, because of the Russians massing troops on the border which seemed (to the analysts that I followed) to have scared Pentagon off momentarily. I still believe that the final decision to hit came later, in June or July, and Putin’s essay was to reassure the Kremlin hawks that he was now in favour of Surkov’s plan (he fired him a year before) and he was committed to the idea of собирания русских земель (the gathering of Russian lands). Yes, when it comes to foreign policy, there is no difference between the two parties. If you think about it more, This policy with regards to Russia is actually detrimental to the interest of the U.S. Number one should not be fighting number two and number three at the same time. We need a sort of reverse Nixon. Unfortunately, our MIC has bought both parties and there is no one that will oppose them.
This is one of the failings of our system. If a group has the financial interest to push the country in a certain direction, and this group has considerable financial clout, there will be no one opposing them even if the interests of this group are severely at odds with the interest of the nation. No one will spend blood and treasure to fight another group just so that our national interests are served. There has to be some money at stake for a group to take any action. Would you please offer an in-depth review/rebuttal of Youtubers like ” Inside Russia” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vQgx28vNsg who claim that the Russian economy is about to collapse, and do so for all time. This vlogger says that in his hometown of Rostov, fresh strawberries are selling for Ru. 650/kg as opposed to Ru.250/kg a year ago. Potatoes, i.e. last September’s harvest, are selling at Ru.65/kg as opposed to Ru. 20/kg a year ago. Hence, despite no increase in wages, this man claims that prices have risen 3x since last year.
One is unable to evaluate the apocalyptic predictions of this Youtuber along with many of his ilk. It goes without saying that Youtubers from Russia are dependent on the goodwill of their subscribers, in addition to lavish gift packages from gullible and emotionally-overwrought US viewers [ see “Different Russia”, “Yeah Russia” etc.] .
These Youtubers may indeed be right, but other points of view as well as a critical evaluation of their claims re: Russian economy, would be most welcome.

2-3x food prices compared to 2019 are probably the norm not the exception, but some areas may pick up the pace slower (so really enjoying an extra year of cheap.) And more expected where it’s not homegrown. If anything, I expect Russia to lag behind in the hikes. Bigtime.
And economy has lot of inertia, I would not jump to conclusions in just 1-2 months. Especially under 1-time event influence that is supposed to create a big wave. USDRUB went 75->140->60 over 3 months. Let’s see the potato prices in September.
Thanks for your comment. My understanding, there was an unusually poor harvest for potatoes. But, grains did very well. With the restriction in the export of Russian grains, prices of foodstuffs such as bread and noodles should not be rising much, if at all.
I live in Russia, in Moscow region.
Fruit and vegetable prices here must be compared very carefully. The difference between, say, March and September can be triple, irrespective of any international problems. One more factor is whether the produce sold in spring is local “old harvest” or imported “new harvest” (mostly from CIS countries). At the moment, my local supermarket offers “old” potato for 50-60 rubles per kilo and “fresh” potato for 80-90. Yes, it’s more expensive than last year, but the difference is about 10 maybe 15 rub, it definitely hasn’t doubled or tripled. Rostov, by the way, in terms of agriculture is the major exporting region, so the prices there are supposed to be lower.
The location is actually another factor that should be considered. My parents live in a small town in the Urals. Dairy products, bread and meat which they consume are mostly locally produced and the price hike there is significantly lower than in Moscow, for some products it hasn’t happend at all.
Though all in all inflation is still a b*tch, we felt it here and grumble a lot about it, but at the moment life is quite manageable.

1-2 weeks ago I talked with my bro in Moscow. Mentioned how it should be problems there before the replacements for the moved out companies get working. He immediately said WHAT? all the companies are there alright working, some changed name or use workarounds, but moved out name only. Except for IKEA that is gone for good. (certainly it’s not the one, but the real number is kinda a handful). When I mentioned the buttons from news he didn’t even hear about related problems and certainly none of us thought it will be a stable problem.
This guy is cherry-picking while making impression what he shows is the norm rather than the rare exception. And count how many minutes he spent on hailing the IKEA. Which is one of many furniture shops. But its place will obviously not be replaced in short time. (also it also might holding on to the places and look to reopen later.)

What goes on in Ukraine is a tragedy — absolutely. And it was so since 2014. Anger, pain dispair just to think about it. hell yeah. being depressed? Russian fixed wing aircraft comprise a significant fraction of the air forces of countries like India, which manufactures various lines under license. Russian aircraft engine life, as well as many other factors, have shown Russian aircraft to be far less effective than opposing F-16 under stringent war conditions in India. French Mirages, and even mothballed MIG 25s have proven more effective than current top of the line Sukhois and MIGs in India.

It’s now a year later. In the meantime that proxy war has been fought and lost. The sanctions war has been fought and lost. The information war has so far been successful. I’m still seeing the blue and yellow flag flying on some of the churches round my way. What will happen when some of us flying it realise what it was all about it’s impossible to guess. Helping neo-nazis get into the Donbas was not the most glorious of causes.
The question still remains, what next? The wider Russian demands for a new European security framework have not been met. The missile bases are still there. NATO is now pressing them harder. Will the Russians now forget about those demands?
If they don’t, and if they employ counter-sanctions against us as forcefully as we’ve tried to employ sanctions against them, it’s going to be a rough few years coming up.

Interesting that you should state this less than 24 hours after I heard, on The Duran, Alexander Mercouris say the same thing about the U.K. And I believe he extended this paucity to most of the governments of Europa.
As FDR famously said, “If something happens in politics you can be sure it was supposed to happen”. This is one among many examples of the extensive political power wielded by the ‘Great Re-set/New World Order’ Davos/Bilderberg conspiracy. Just one more reason why “they” had to get rid of Trump who was a real leader despite his many flaws.
Here in California we have already received notification from the State that a ballot will be mailed to every name and address on the voter registration rolls. California has motor voter registration and anyone person who walks into a Department of Motor Vehicles office can obtain a drivers license and register to vote. California has also legalized vote harvesting. Political campaign workers are allowed to contact registered voters, ask if they need help with absentee voting, collect the completed ballots and turn them in to the precinct offices. In the 2018 mid-term elections the six Republican members of Congress in Orange County California appeared to have won re-election when the polls closed, but were defeated after counting mail-in ballots and the 250,000 harvested ballots Democratic campaign workers delivered to precinct officials.
This has not been forgotten by the majority of people in OC, but these kid of tactics have been in play for decades now. The majority of people actually side with most conservative principles , but are afraid of retribution if they are open about it.
People also have just stopped voting in CA (very likely in other blue strongholds) and this has been going on for decades as well.
A tipping point will come for Antifah, or the ‘Greens’ or ‘Labor Party’ as they call the insane left in Europe.
The real problem is how this is put into reverse.

In EU, mainly activists, governing with 15%-20%, majorities reached by “exclusion” vote vs the opponent. Added to that, democracy has been replaced by “ollicracy”. From my point of view (FR), Trump will be the solution 🙂 (domino effect).

We have politicians, people who understand politics, but who don’t bother to come to an understanding of issues and policies. They act on ideology and self-interest only.

Things have really changed much in a political sense over many decades. Whenever a leader pops up and puts their national interest first, they are taken down. Just think of the current “enemy no, 1s”. What has changed is there is now less pie to go around and more elite mouths to feed. Plus the interweb allows mass surveillance and manipulation of large swathes of humanity. Interesting times, buckle up!
