Folks, it may have been my fourth booster shot, but I *think* it was the below video that exploded my head.
This video shows citizens in Melitopol’, the largest city within the Russian-controlled portion of the Ukraine’s Zaporozhia province (soon enough to be formally a part of Russia), lining up to review documents and schedule an appointment to apply for a Russian passport.
(In most of the former USSR countries, passports have a domestic and an international version—this application is likely for the former, as a form of official ID.)
According to the journo lady with the microphone (who really needs to eat something, someone please call her mama, this is not healthy), this is but one such line in town; there are others at other locations.
The government employee or volunteer lady from 0:08 to 0:17, says (translations are all mine), “Well, here, just yesterday, there were 1000 here, over 1000, and today, I’m already on 611, and before me there were others (employees or volunteers) handing in (their own) lists.“
The 30-something dude at 0:21 to 0:36 waxes poetic, saying, “We got in line in 1991. But it got to us only now. Since 1991, we felt like this had to happen at some point. Of course, it took 30 years. But that’s OK, we know how to wait.“
The blonde older lady at 0:36 to 0:59 says, “Now, we’re not afraid. Right now specifically, we’re not afraid.“ The reporter (off-screen) then asks her, “Are you here voluntarily?” She responds, “Of course. Like we’d be standing here for five hours if it wasn’t voluntary. We wanted this for a long time. No one’s going to force anything on us. We’ll probably live like we want to. If we want to speak in Russian, in Ukrainian, in Tatar.“
The fashionable young lady at 1:09, says, “I took this decision because in my family basically everyone is for it, granny and gramps were right away like ‘yeah, let’s do it!’ And that was it, and we went and did it… I feel safe… I am comfortable, I’m just feeling good.“
The young man at 1:24 or 1:25 says, “For me, it is a great honor to become a citizen of a mighty state. That was my dream of eight years, you could say, after all those events that started in the Ukraine (in 2014.) I understood that nothing good would happen in the Ukraine.”
The short-haired lady from 2:04 says, through tears, “I am happy. I’m going to cry. I waited for this at least eight years. I wasn’t living here, I lived in Zhitomir (in mid-northwest Ukraine), and everything that happened there, I just couldn’t take it here (points to her chest.) All those streets (referring to politically-correct renaming of streets), all those prohibitions, you had to love Bandera, when you don’t. The prohibition on going to the Eternal Flame, but I want to go, my grandfather fought (in World War 2.) Thanks to Russia. Thanks for the liberation, thanks for the passports.“
Folks, you’d have to be a real blind, deaf, dumb numbskull to say this is all “staged” Russian propaganda. I’ll just leave it at that.
As for the Dreizin Report being a “No Propaganda Zone”….. I evaluate what I see, and I share what’s real and true, that you’ll never, ever see in the MSM. “No propaganda” doesn’t mean I have to be a low-rent parrot of Fox, CNN, MSNBC, NPR, PBS, ABC, NBC, CBS, NY Times, WaPO, WSJ, USA Today, Politico, Voice of America, BBC, Daily Mail, etc., etc., etc.

Why the fear?
You may recall, some people in the above video, made a point to say how they feel safe, not afraid, etc. But, why even talk like that? Well… let’s mention something called “terrorism.”
Andrei Shevchik, mayor of Energodar, 50 miles to the northwest, also under Russian control, was almost killed by a bomb left in a mailbox he was accessing in the lobby of either his, or his mother’s (I’ve heard different versions) apartment building. He had to spend many days in intensive care, and will be some weeks in the hospital before he is discharged. His two bodyguards were injured as well.
Yes, in the best traditions of Democracy, Progressive Liberalism, and the Vietcong, agents of the Ukraine Security Service have (in some cases) killed, and (in other cases) tried to kill, civilians who have been prominent in cooperating with or speaking out for Russia.
All in all, the violence has not remotely approached “Baghdad 2005” levels. But, the danger is real.
Keep in mind, Mitch “the Manchurian Turtle” McConnell said Russia should be designated by the U.S. State Department as a “State Sponsor of Terrorism.” (Because, you know, they’re bad or something.) What a dipsh*t.
It would make far more sense to designate Uncle Sam as a “Sponsor of a State Sponsor of Terrorism.”
All I can say to Mitch, is what I usually say… Send more Javelins! That will fix everything!

In the video, it was also mentioned that the queue happened in Melitopol’ “despite the warm temperature, almost 30 degrees”. But why is Mitch McConnell called “the Manchurian turtle”? What is the story? Must be fun. I want to know this more than the ethnic Russians want their Russian passport under the sun.

My father-in-law spoke fluent English, Russian as well as Chinese. The KMT ROC use to rely on Soviet technical / engineering advisors from the Qinghai revolution through to Chiang Kai Shek replacing Dr. Sun Yat-Sen as KMT leader, and then the PRC CCP used Russian advisors up until the death of Stalin, so Russian was important at many Chinese Universities. He was sent to Korea to work as the ground to air liaison for the PLA, while my father was a Navy pilot, so in theory they may have spent some part of the war trying to kill each other. This is a long way of saying Mr. Hao has a lot of company.
The two of them hit it off, thick as thieves after my wedding. They both said that the entire Korean war was pretty much one long war crime. Dad was allowed to quit the Navy when his refusal to carry out obvious war crimes got too embarrassing to take to a court martial. The Navy got their revenge later, after he joined the Coast Guard to start saving lives instead. The Navy got the Coast Guard to transfer him into Vietnam to fly repair of navigation aid missions in Meikong Delta; the red and white flying boat leaker than the Titanic from bullet holes. That’s how the top brass swing, nasty to the last.

I love how the “queueing” system works in Russia, which is obviously also in force here. People line up from early morning just to sign up and be issued a number. That first woman was saying that yesterday a thousand people were in line and she was issued number 611. People come day after day until their turn in the line finally comes up. That is what the lady at the 1.47 mark is talking about. As soon as they saw the announcement that Russian passports were being issued they immediately came to sign up and finally (she doesn’t clarify how many days she waited) her turn has come. I believe that if you turn doesn’t come one day, you are moved up the list and come back the next day, when you will be closer to the front of the line and have more chance of being seen. I know all this from my own experience of waiting in line at the Russian immigration service. It is wonderful to see. The humor of the guy who said he has been waiting since 1991 is heartwarming and I truly believe it, since after the Soviet Union collapsed, many people living in the former republics immediately lost their Russian citizenship and it has been a problem restoring it for many. Now justice is being restored.
In 2012 I was at a meeting of Donetsk chamber of commerce. The British ambassador to Ukraine gave a speech in which he admonished Ukraine saying in effect: You are quarelling with Russia for gas pipeline transit fees of a few bilion dollars per year. If instead you worked on your economy and dealt with massive corruption, you could be at least at the level of Poland. In 1991 you were at the same level. Now Poles have made real progress and if you took the current (2012) per capita GDP of Poland and applied that to Ukraine, you could have 350 bilion dollars extra.
Well, nothing happened of course and Ukraine, this beacon of democracy, is in deeper hole than in 2012.
Speaking of the reporter… all I can say is, “Somebody give that girl a sandwich!”… LOL. If reports like this keep coming in you’re going to need a fire-hose to clean up.

I remember how western medias blew a gasket when the breakaway republics in Georgia issued Russian Passports. A comrade of mine had been getting frequently into trouble because of it, to the point where they just renounced their georgian citizenship.

The biggest lie about Ukraine of Yuschenko years and post Maidan is that “Ukrainski narod” (the people of Ukraine) and “Ukrainska natsia” (the Ukrainian nation) are the same thing. The stupid idea to “re-engineer” the whole of Ukraine as a monolithic, exclusively ethnic Ukrainian state is the country’s undoing. Other than the nationalist fanatics and the small pro-Western urban elites who benefit from it it does not have takers in Ukraine.
As a former citizen of USSR, I am not surprised at all. Collapse of communism was a blessing, but not collapse of the country. We were all cheated, there were no elections, no referendums, Gorbachev just let us go. Putin issued order a few years ago, that any former soviet citizen can apply for Russian citizenship, while keeping current citizenship as well. Ukrainians just could not do it because of banderovs, A lot of people in other former soviet republics are applying for dual citizenships. People over 40 are applying because they feel part of Russia world like me, because they are Russified or mixed families (majority), younger generation is doing it for economic reasons. A lot of people work in Russia, so it is just cuts a lot read tape, plus Russia pays much better social/welfare benefits. I think in a few years, depending how many people switched, there will be referendums, and several republics will come back if Russia lets them.
Russia a designated place cor economic migration? Higher benefits? You will never hear that narrative as everybody knows of crushing poverty and economic catastrophe that is Russia economy. – if one reads NtT or other publications in this shinny city on the hill.

I certainly don’t think Russia represents the promised land as there are of course, all sort of problems and corruption.
Putin is an enigma. On one hand I think he’s the least worst option for a place as large and complex as Russia. In listening to and observing him over the years I think he’s a highly intelligent man who does genuinely care for the well being of the people of his nation. In that respect there is no equivalent – not even close – in the West today. However, he’s also quite ruthless with an obvious authoritarian disposition but perhaps that’s the only way to govern Russia? Can we admit that, for the vast majority, order is more important than freedom? He’s certainly no different to Erdogan and, strangely, the West has no problem cooperating and coexisting with Turkey.
There seems to be some strange pathology in Western (particularly Anglo-American) thinking towards Russia. A mental block towards viewing Russia as a great civilization – Western in ways but not fully – with which we can cooperate. I see it here in Canada expressed in the most pathetic ways… from mocking Russia’s remarkable development of Sochi for the Winter Olympic Games (“toilets don’t work, food stinks”…ha, ha…

I am struggling to understand the change that has slowly come over my own thinking in the past 5 years. 20 years ago if this Ukraine situation had happened, I would have bee all in supporting the war hawks. But slowly, slowly…Iraq war, Libya, Syria lies, Afghanistan incompetence…forever wars. Wars with no purpose, whose only outcome is destruction and disorder and a military that can’t and won’t and becomes a gaggle of grocery clerks. 2 years of Covid lies. Well , I’m not from a west , but I think that most of western countries (their respective governments and elites which they serve) see Russia as a pray , or prize , since Napoleon’s effort to invade it . They’ve got the taste of victory in 1990’s (that is how oligarchs became) and many of current politicians were witnesses of that (in their younger age), so they think it is the same ,or similar , situation now (Russia is a gas station with the nukes) and everything is up for grabs (because of corruption) . Pesky Putin is in the way. Overall public opinion is being formed against Russia (or USSR , at it’s time) for almost 100 years to serve that narrative and people , mostly , don’t bother to check anything (if it was in newspapers or TV – it must be truth). There is a ever growing minority , which challenges current (and past and , probably , future) BS that is coming from a screen. Russia is a proverbial boogie man for the westerners , which is very handy to refer to , when something in “elites” plans goes wrong , or obvious to the masses.

I was listening to a Melitopolian where in one of his vlogs he was showing this and said that he asked about a peculiar fact from a lady at the reigustration desk. In a column next to the name, date of birth etc, there was a one dig it number for each row like 3, 2 or 1 etc. He got interested and asked her what it meant, she told him it means how many people that person whose name she wrote down will bring with them for the application appointment. So, he said in just a couple of days she wrote more than a thousand names. Imagine everyone will bring a few people with them. These first days it’s usually just the enthusiasts and the super pro Russian folks and that is already more than 5 k in a small town like Melitopol, the biggest wave will come soon, when people realize that there is nothing to be afraid of and the application process really works.
Jacob…having seen both of the Passports’…The “INTERNAL” Passport – the equivalent of a National ID Card, is an old Soviet era form of ID that has remained in use in all the former Soviet Republics. It provides ID for those that do not have a Driver’s Licence. Similarly, most countries use the Driver’s Licence or a National ID Card for those that do not have a Driver’s Licence.
The “INTERNATIONAL” Passport…completely separate document has the traveller’s necessary identifying biometric data for travel outside the country.

I’ve just watched your video on Melitopol which I got to know quite well from the safe distance of Patrick Lancaster’s videos in earlier, much more troubling times. Even though I don’t speak Russian it made me feel warm inside. Well before this I also saw another video from a different town of people fleeing in cars and being ambushed, shot, killed and robbed while trying to escape. Taken by someone who got through it and survived. (I somehow don’t think it was the Russians they were escaping from!) What calm, descent, orderly people. You wouldn’t know, from watching this, what they’ve just been through. Respect.

Use of both Russian and Ukraine sources and maps objectively explains the relative positions and challenges for both Russia and Ukraine. On Rumble and YouTube. I did watch the video you reference and appreciated his analysis but would consider it an adjunct to Military Summary presentations.
Reasons already given explain the moniker, Manchurian Turtle Mitch. IMO, his voting record establishes that he is and has been controlled by political interests antithetic to the interests of the US. His power comes from his control of the Senate campaign fund which he uses to threaten Senators w/ losing their seats. He now has fancy pants Graham working on a bipartisan gun control legislation. McConnell must be removed from his Senate leadership position. If the people of Kentucky had any cojones and would give up the pork, they would recall him.
This was a very moving report from these people. To them, it is a liberation from terrorism and a memorable day in their lives. They are moving into a safe future with strong protection. I hope the Ukrainians back off from that area, leave them alone, and not lob any missiles in their direction so they can finally get on with their lives. I wish them well.

Your words carry more truth than you perhaps intended. Matthew Ehret’s article, linked below outlines how deep the Nazi rabbit hole goes. In short, much deeper than any official narrative dares to go. The Third Reich was but one chapter in Naziism’s history. A history that predates it by decades and continues until today.
Finland and Sweden aren’t joining NATO out of panic at the resurgence of the Russian bear. Both govts have stated plainly that they have no reason to believe that Russia is a threat to them. Neither are they joining because their elites are stupid, but because a long quiet movement within their elites is enjoying a resurgence. Suddenly, it’s OK to be a Nazi and they’re making their move. Generally when something changes, about 30% of the population is delighted for the change, 30% resist, and about 40% are ambivalent. When the change occurs, the delighted 30% will show up for the change along with a sizable portion of the ambivalent 40% who nonetheless want to be with the crowd. You don’t see the disappointed 30%. In this particular case, there is no line for people signing up for something they lost. This shouldn’t explode anyone’s head.

They have used them against training centers, traction terminal stations and they seem to do a lot of damage.
You’ve basically answered your question yourself. The Ukrainian forces hate the civilians of Eastern Ukraine.
So they’re placing their military hardware in civilian areas. Like schools, hospitals residential areas. These civilians are who Russia wants to protect so it would be defeating the object just bombing the areas where these bandits are & inflicting civilian casualties

The answer predictably is even more abuse. So I always remind them to read over our conversation & ask yourself why you’ve felt the need to abuse someone who’s stated a fact. Then I’ll say what is the world coming to when speaking the truth means you’re a target if abuse & allegations without proof gives you moral high ground. I am an American living in Croatia. I can’t tell you how many times Croatians, on discovering that I am American, ask me about our President. It’s a very sly way to find out where each American stands. When I clearly state that he isn’t my President they immediately switch to English or speak very quietly “na hrvatskom” and speak about the evil government in DC and how the Ukrainians and all the EU are accursed by war and corrupt leaders.
