There’s also the prospect of a Russian-Polish war in northwest Ukraine.
It’s now well known that a newly-unified, Russian-Belarussian command is planning a winter offensive…..
…..a “second front” against unprepared, largely unguarded areas in the Ukraine’s north.
There may be some diversionary raids, but it’s understood that the most likely axis of advance is near the Polish border, south to Lutsk and then potentially to Lvov…..
…..cutting off the main supply lines into the Ukraine…..
…..without which all organized resistance by Ukrainian forces employing large modern weapons, would cease totally in as little as six weeks.
(Yes, the Ukraine’s largely-electric trains, which now run those supplies once they cross the border, will very likely be brought out of commission well before the winter, as Russia continues to destroy the power distribution system, and no foreign-donated diesel locomotives can replace them, as Europe uses different track gauge from the USSR. But, some material can be brought all the way by road, and the Polish route is by far the most realistic, in terms of terrain, the number of available roads, and a well-established base on the Polish side.)
Outside of Kiev, the Ukraine simply does not have the manpower to guard its northern border against the force being assembled.
Now, where am I going with this, why should YOU care?
Because, the position of the USA and Europe has long ago changed from (remember this?), “We have to weaken Russia, to ensure that Russia can’t attack anyone else“…..
…..to, “We need a Complete Victory, otherwise the World Order will be brought down, no one will take the U.S. and Eurocracy seriously anymore, and life on Earth will be unbearable.”
What this means, following the above logic, if they still want a victory, if they’re not prepared to throw in the towel under ANY circumstances…..
…..is that Poland’s longtime (since at least May) preparations to “go into” western Ukraine (in this case, to preserve at least some secondary supply route)…..
…..MUST finally be executed…..
…..leading to direct conflict with Russian-Belarussian forces.
Otherwise the Ukraine will be knocked out before spring.
(What will NATO a.k.a. Uncle Sam do if Russia responds to cannon fire from inside Poland?)
However, Poland is NOT in a position to really take on Russia.
It has given away most of its functional tanks (about 300, already) to the Ukraine.
It has given away much of its artillery.
It has very likely given away some of its air force (this stuff being more expensive, it is a more sensitive topic for taxpayers, and thus hasn’t been admitted to.)
It has minimal air defenses.
And, the USA is running low on munitions to hand out to all and sundry.
Bottom line: If Poland joins the fray…..
It will need U.S. support. A LOT of it.
So, it won’t be just the Ukraine.
We’ll need to fund Poland as well.
Again, Republicans can forget about “not writing a blank check” to the Ukraine.
Their check writing will only EXPAND.

‘Denatured’ alcohol is a misnomer. It refers to ethyl alcohol which has been deliberately contaminated with methyl alcohol (AKA wood alcohol and methanol), which is far more toxic, leading to blindness, liver failure and death.

I wouldn’t put anything past the Poles, their animosity towards Russia is well known. Their /secret/ boots are already on the ground in Ukraine anyway. They might as well stay on to carry on the fighting formally, broadening the conflict. But, they’re in the process of alienating Germany, too, as we speak, with all those pipeline shennanigans. That’s not what you do to your supposed allies. So I see there a possible backstop to any escalation further than Poland itself.
I wonder if a lure of territorial gains in a distant case of the partitioning of Ukraine (Eastern Galicia) could do anything to sway Poland’s stance before they do something really stupid.
I have two very kind Polish colleagues who visit Poland on a monthly basis. One of them is the only Pole I know of who has sympathies towards Russia and who sees what is going on. The other one is pretty open minded and critical to both “sides”. Both are telling me that Poland is already in some kind of mental war condition. Without NATO the imbecile comments from Polish and Baltic politicians would be reason enough to declare war to them.
Forget Germany, you can “antagonise” Germany from all sides, in every way possible, in all holes.
The only thing the German politicians will do is grunting about it in some hidden chamber. But in terms of media they will project all this negative non-energy towards Russia and will follow the US-lead.

I am deeply troubled about both sides not having a way out of this. Russia knows what awaits it if they fail. Other countries like China will be brought to heel and dishonored as well. On the flip side the Elites in the West know how unkind the future will be for them. The best thing that could happen is a stalemate perhaps. But I don’t think the West will accept that outcome. Don’t think so. Nobody gathers tens of thousands of mobilised soldiers just for a faint. Dreizin is spot on, the Russians will go in in the north and the only escalation the “West” has left would be a direct intervention or a “limited intervention” – which means NATO will say that it is not taking part in a Polish intervention and the Poles have to fight “alone” but will in fact the same fucking support as Ukraine. The “strategic depth” of this whole freakshow will shift to Polish territories then (in fact, it is already, also the rest of Europe, but the main training grounds, supply centers will be in Poland). The Poles will become the new Ukrainians – what an attractive position.
At this point I am still trying to figure out an equation for some kind of “imbecilic equilibrium”. Which force will win in the end:
1) The cowardice of Western leaders and/or their realisation that they can’t do more without harming themselves (especially the European arschholes)
2) The unbelievable hubris of these people, their total ignorance and lack of knowledge, and their irrational hate for the admission that Russia has the upper hand in theaters close to its border and that it IS some kind of bigger player/power (Van der Leyen treats Russia as some kind of international child-pariah and she is the teacher with the whip).

On Saturday morning, 22 October, my Orc wife and I were travelling by train to our dacha, situated some 55 miles southwest of Moscow. On our way there, we passed two very long military trains, each hauled by four electric locos. One train consisted of army trucks, command vehicles, field kitchens etc., the other consisted of armoured vehicles — tanks and armoured personnel carriers.
The line to our dacha is the main line west out of Darkest Mordor — to Minsk and thereafter Warsaw and Berlin.
That’s Minsk in Belorussia for those who may not be familiar with East European geography.

I see Russia positioning itself for something major. Of course we do not know the exact timing of their major moves. Meanwhile, Russia is taking out the Ukrainian power grid and military communications. It looks like Russia has finally become somewhat serious with its SMO.
What happens from here could happen very quickly or it could be the continual slow Russian grind.
The reasons I have heard for Russia’s slow grind on the battlefield is that Russia wishes to preserve its troops and wants to take out the advancing Ukrainians in large numbers without suffering greatly within its own ranks. This makes good military sense, yet, the slow Russian grind looks like defeat.
It is difficult for me to believe Russia will continue to operate the same way, and it does look like some major changes have occurred in the last couple of weeks, such as starting to take out the Ukraine power grid and military communications.
I think that in warfare you have to eventually take the gloves off and be willing to sacrifice men and military hardware if you are going to win. I think the Russian commanders understand this. I don’t know if Putin does.
Perhaps Putin does and is looking at the picture at a higher level of overview. That certainly may be the case. Yet, it goes against the grain of the impatient that want to rush to victory. Meanwhile, the Ukrainians have been rushing to one offensive after another sacrificing both a lot of men and equipment. And the Russian meat grinder looks to be working just fine.

If I was Russia I would be organizing resistance movements in the big cities I wanted to seize, to make life easier. Not simple and the SBU seem a pretty ruthless Gestapo. Is this possible? There is talk of resistance in Nicolaeyev.
As I am in Russia I sincerely hope that Vladimir II the Great’s dream team are familiar with the ‘game theory’ far beyond cats, mice, chickens and zero sums … and are busting their phat (ref. I live in Queensland and at out last state election our State Premier had closed the borders which was popular with a majority of constituents but was bad for business, she won re-election and opened the border a week later. I add that point because she was hard core border closure and flipped almost immediately (and quietly). Anxiety is becoming epidemic for good reason. We are now accelerating toward a collapse. The US gov/Fed is printing and spending money at an insane pace and inflation be damned. Eventually the wheels come off and the consequences will come home to roost via high unemployment and the return of real hardship and deprivation. And the last straw is likely to ignite a power keg of repressed anger. Will it be a peaceful explosion of outrage? Not in the big cities. Street protests will devolve into riots. Local LEOs will be overwhelmed and national guard will be activated to quell the mayhem and violence. The descent into chaos will be much faster than most people expect.
Get out of the big city now. Find a safe haven somewhere rural and remote. Survive the initial maelstrom of insanity. Be strong and smart, and you may make it to the other side of what comes next.

When the British Secretary of State for Defence, Ben Wallace flew in hurry to Wash. DC after his phone conversation with Russian Defense Minister Shoigu, he claimed that UK/US secure communications had been breached.
More interesting was that the Wallace/Shoigu call concerned a possible ‘dirty bomb’ attack in Ukraine. False flag or not, that emergency Wallace/White House/Pentagon meeting surely did initiate a wall of denials all around the world.
The most interesting aspect is the UK/US communication breach and Shoigu’s phone call. Did Shoigu provide proof of the ‘dirty bomb’ false attack plan? If so, isn’t it possible that Shoigu also has proof of the Nord Stream bombers?

Question, if Russia takes the east and Poland/Hungary/Romania take the west, could they just agree to partition Ukraine peacefully? I.e., make a new N-S dividing line with some barbed wire and trenches (where the old Stalin line used to be) and call it good as in Korea?
Sure there would be a new cold war and increase in everybody’s defense budgets (yummy!) and I don’t see sanctions being lifted anytime soon, but could this all go down without escalation?
The most recent number I’ve heard for the Russian buildup in Belerus was 9000 men. It was reported that it did include a Headquarters and support contingent of 1000. that would seem about right for a Corp or Army command element. I would think that if they were going to seriously attack western Ukraine, they would want 90k-120k troops. You would need the attack elements and a good many men to cover your exposed flanks
I’ve not seen evidence of that kind of aggressiveness in the Russian Army thus far. Until I see actual evidence, its possible to imagine that there will be no large, decisive offensive.
The prospects of an expansion of the war by a US intervention seems somewhat remote. There is no mobilization effort at all on the US side. No preparation to move the heavy Corp from the US to Europe. No big surge in aircraft being deployed etc. As it is now, the Russians have a 6 month lead in mobilization of people and industry.
My own guess is that the US military is dead set against being pushed into a fight with the Russians. Too many comfortable careers would be placed at risk. My goodness, there could even be General Officers who might get killed !
Hello. There is no mobilization in the USA, wonderful. There has been mobilization in Poland since at least May. I wrote about it at the time. They are ready to go, they just need permission.
As for “the most recent number you’ve heard”, that’s a couple weeks old, it was a guess, and it means nothing even if it was accurate at the time. There are Russian soldiers moving into Belarus almost every day. There is also the Belarussian army itself.
What’s your opinion of the Belarusian army in terms of size, competence, equipment? Do you think Belarus will get its share of Ukraine after the war? They could get Chernobyl nuclear plant. Regarding the radioactive exclusion zone, they already know how to handle it since 90% it’s in its own territory…

I think Tulsi would not betray trump on the Anti war front, she is still more Anti war than he is.
