If you didn’t hear, Brandon’s people have asked Congress for another $37 billion for the Ukraine project.
(Why $37 billion? Presumably because, if I’m not mistaken, about $60 billion has already been authorized, and they want to keep it under a “100-handle”, for now, for as long as they can.)
Remember, a month ago, Republicans spoke of writing a “one and done” check for roughly $50 billion for all of 2023.
You may recall, I laughed that one out of the park. $50 billion wouldn’t even last until summer.
Well, that “one and done” went the way of all flesh.
Today, no one is talking about “one and done.”

But then, one idiot came out shooting, he wounded one of the Ukrainians (not clear from the video, but that’s what one of the involved, claimed later)…..

…..they decided to shoot all the prone Russian prisoners (11 of them), one by one, in the head.
They didn’t upload that part to the Internets…..

Surprisingly, the BBC (UK) did a thorough job on this on its website, but the last third or more of their piece, was all “but, but, but” hemming and hawing about “how Russia is worse.”
Well, maybe subjectively worse, but, Russia has taken well over 10,000 Ukrainian prisoners, and no one has yet released a video of any getting shot.
So I think, statistically, Ukrainian prisoners do better.
(BTW, Russia has already determined the names/identities of the perps in this case. I’m not their lawyer but, don’t take your smartphone to war, people.)

Mr Dreizin, I think you will find Ukraine has a lot more diesel trains than the official figures state. I follow a few Ukrainian train spotters and no electricity is not stopping them. There’s even a regular train service to Kherson! I don’t really get why the Russians haven’t been seriously bombing the railway infrastructure ?
Hello. The electric trains are top priority for the Ukrainian war effort, and will be the very, very last thing to go. They will cut power for hospitals before they kill their own munitions deliveries by rail.
With that in mind, of course there has not been a decline in rail traffic, yet, although there were major delays after the 11/23 missile strike.
As for their diesel locomotives, according to “Rybar” which is the gold standard, most of these are nonfunctional, only about 1/4 are in working order. Also, the diesels on average are smaller/weaker than the electrics.
Lastly, keep in mind, you need power for communications and signaling to manage the rail traffic, and to service and maintain the locomotives.
War-crime trivial correction. The Makeevka where the Russians were murdered isn’t the one adjacent to Donetsk. It’s the one 30 miles east of Izium, recently abandoned by Russia and reoccupied by the Ukraine.
Bitcoin. I also think that, indirectly, the concept of bitcoin allows people to slide into CBDC without much difficulty, and perhaps that was an additional motive for it. I could never understand those who swear by bitcoin. While not a computer ‘guru’, surely if your access to the internet is denied, so is the access to your wallet….

If it seems Jews have been uniquely targeted for discrimination it would certainly be worth asking why. For example, in certain settings Jews became money-lenders because, unlike the rest of tbe local population, their religion made no strictures against “usury” (lending money for profit). This could lead to a buildup of envy & suspicion towards Jews who prospered in this way, & the lack of assimilation that they also often practices would only have exacerbated those issues. Obviously, no one can afford to loan capital without some sort of return on their investment, but some individuals do business fairly while others do not. Looking back at past cultural interactions can help us understand how we got here. There are always grains of uncomfortable truth to be found from all sides of these cultural divides. Speaking purely in broad generalities here, I suspect having a historically insular community, ostensibly born of a genuinely felt persecution mythos & with a cultural story of being chosen among others by God, has probably inspired resentment. As to whether the Jews have been uniquely persecuted throughout history, I don’t feel qualified to comment on as history was written by the winners & has become lies agreed upon. I was, after all, not there. But I don’t doubt most Jews believe it wholeheartedly, particularly if they are religious, as they seem to spend a fair amount of time recounting the various slings & arrows. Of course, I will also point out that you don’t really maintain a culture or a religion by assimilating into someone else’s, & I certainly do not fault Jews for wanting to maintain theirs. Cruise missiles developed in 70s made thruout 80s 1st seen in Desert Storm 1990. Russia had a huge stock pile. Plus your average 20 year old low end PCs chips are more advanced than the 80s and 90s cruise missle chips. Russia has no problem getting current day low end chips for them.

When a couple of million people of Ukraine are fleeing to Europe, a collapse of the EU is also possible in a small timeframe like a couple of months to years.

That is likely outcome – Russia is coming out of this much stronger than it was heading in, on multiple levels including ‘cleansing’ from all of the perceived ‘elites’ that suddenly found a foreign passport (mostly Israeli) that they previously defined having.. I would not go as far as ‘strongest’ country but definitely stronger vs what it was in 2021.
Either way, Russian experts like Rostislav Ischenko was quoting a saying that tough times lead to strong men who create easy/prosperous time that led to weak men and cycle repeats. In short Bitcoin is a wonderful invention, made possible by the Internet. It grew out of Public Key cryptography developed in the 70’s, as a way to send secret unreadable-without the Private Key, messages. I imagine the CIA is still the biggest user of cryptos. Even now when you send a Bitcoin transaction, the wallet asks you if you want to send an optional message. That messaging system was the parent of Bitcoin. Bitcoin is real, it’s over-hyped, it will take a while for programmers to write new and useful programs, It’s sort of like the Internet in the 90’s. It’s not done. The crazy speculation may be done, for now. But it’ll be back.

Military integrated circuits presently don’t use the most cutting edge, “5nm” technology.
1. It takes a long while to qualify any military application component including electronics, so military ICs will always be yesterday’s technology.
2. The IC’s need to be resistant to extremes of temperature shock, ionizing radiation, RF, and electrostatic shock so the most advanced small geometry processes can be too fragile.
3. Present weapons don’t need the level of processing power of something like a smart phone. I would guess that will change as more artificial intelligence weapons come on line. For example “killer sparrow” type drones that are sent in swarms into geofenced kill zones where they use visual processing to identify any humans, then zip into them and blow themselves up, will need very compact but high capability electronics.
4. The most critical IC’s are not off the shelf commercial parts anyway, they are Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASIC) which are designed from the ground up for a particular system. Those have to be designed and manufactured locally by the Russians or Chinese unless they do what US defense contractors do which is send the designs to fabs in Taiwan and make them pinky swear to not reveal the designs or maybe slip into the photo-etch masks some circuitry for back-door access.

Better do some reading. Bitcoin runs on a public blockchain – it’s completely transparent – EVERYONE can see what’s happening. It’s not even remotely untraceable, by any stretch of anyone’s imagination. If I move some Bitcoin from one of my wallets into another one of my wallets, everyone can see the transaction. Many unforeseeable things will come out of Ukraine but one that’s obvious and already well on it’s way to the West from various cesspits there is Natsi-ism, in it’s purest form. We are going to reap what we sowed there.
I’d wager that this will be this single biggest unintended consequence of the Ukraine shit-show (assuming no nuclear plants get blown up). An economically unstable Eastern Europe flooded with weapons and a bunch of hardened and angry Ukrainians and sundry Eastern European militants.
There are already ultranationalist factions throughout Eastern Europe and I fear that there are some dark and demonic forces that are poised to take a hold of a sizeable minority of Eastern Europeans now that the dogs of war have been unleashed.
Surely, Eastern Europeans are not uniquely prone to being drawn into evil as it’s a human failing that transcends DNA but perhaps because I’m well acquainted with these people and cultures (and am one of them), I’ve developed a sense that there is a particular strain of stubbornness, mindless collectivist thinking and cruelty in them that can be activated when the better angels of their nature are shunned. Most bitcoin has not been given out. The overwhelming majority of bitcoin was/is “mined” by 10s of thousands of different individuals and groups (some state actors of course). It takes energy and work to mine bitcoin – hence it’s moniker of a “proof of work” protocol. You allude to a “proof of stake” protocol, such as Ethereum or FTX Token, which is more or less is as you described.

Why so negative about Bitcoin?
That the Rs reelected McConnell and McCarthy is proof that the system is broken. Both were derelict is their roles as party leaders and should have been replaced, but the machine returned them nonetheless. Its time for an alternative party, which hopefully and eventually will replace the Rs in our two party system. If the Republican leadership stabs Trump in the back during the 2024 primaries (as I anticipate), he should return the favor by prepositioning a third party campaign to switch into as a last resort late in the year. This would shake things up considerably and the Rs will have earned their fate.
This seems similar to me as the Ds during the HC debacle. There was all this talk about energizing the base, Bernie (like him or not, no matter) energized the D base. Then all of sudden it was, “vote for HC or else”. That fractured the base and the rest is history so-to-speak.
Ross Perot was a genuine Independent who achieved an actual attempt at third party. Are there any Ross Perot’s out there at this point, in anyone’s opinion?
