In THE most comprehensive, simultaneous wave of Ukrainian assaults of the entire war, from Sunday morning through Monday afternoon if not later, the Ukrainian side, with “surprisingly” inadequate artillery preparation and no major use of suicide drones (no surprises if you’ve been reading Dreizin), launched offensive operations at three different points in Zaporozhie province (using a total of six infantry and two tank battalions), as well as near Ugledar, near Mar’inka, Avdeevka, Gorlovka, Soledar, near “Bock-moot”, and Maiorsk.
Attacks were aimed at potential weak points in Russian defense lines, presumably as identified by U.S. and UK orbital groups in tandem with private imaging satellites.
Ukrainian material losses (including abandoned gear sitting in no-man’s land) since Sunday morning, stand at over 50 armored vehicles, including over 30 foreign-donated, wheeled vehicles such as MRAP’s, Humvees, Kirpis, also 3 French AMX-10 wheeled tanks. (Some visual proof, further below.)
(Also note, the Ukraine’s top general, Zaluzhny, is still out to lunch following his injury, and its chief of military intelligence, Budanov, who used to give interviews literally almost every day, hasn’t been seen in a week, since Russia launched a targeted strike at his headquarters. Many thanks for the post. I really needed it. It was the first thing I read after seeing the headlines. Yes, scorched earth is what it is – worse than that too as anyone knows cleaning up after a major flood: mold and damp, add to that the tons of oil, mines, massive amounts of toxins and waste, it‘s a tragedy of terrible proportions. And the lame stream, Ukrainian PM office, EU blah blahs had all the lies, graphics and photos ready at hand the minute the button was pushed.
My old boss at an Int Org was a Jennifer. In retrospect, I‘m pretty sure she‘s CEE I AY. She‘s sure had an amazing career when you consider her minimal education and talents. But she wasn‘t bad looking and talked the talk. They are all worse than hookers. Is Russia exerting their maximum effort in Ukraine, or are they preparing forces for a second front? To me, every day that Ukraine holds territory that is now, legally, part of the Russian Federation, Russia is failing in their duty to protect their new citizens by referendum. Are the forces really so evenly matched that Russia can’t significantly advance? Or, are they holding back forces in case of direct NATO involvement? I know the conflict has been a goldmine for gathering intelligence on Western weapons systems, but vice versa.
Hello. Russia has to maintain forces in Armenia and Karabakh, the Kurile islands, Kaliningrad, the Finnish and Baltic borders, Syria, and on the Tadjik-Afghan border, along with some Wagner guys in Africa. It’s also committed to not using any first-round conscripts (18-19 year-olds) beyond its 2014 borders. It’s also committed to no longer using its precious Rossgvardia (former Interior Ministry forces) on the front lines. It’s also ruled out, for now, any further mass conscription for Ukraine duty. What it’s doing now in the Ukraine, is the maximum that it can do in the Ukraine, under the given constraints, short of going back to bombing power plants, or commencing the destruction of dams, or using nuclear weapons.
True there is a lot of damage to the Soviet legacy and clearly damaging this dam and hydro power plant is going to cost a lot of money to repair. But bearing in mind Ukraine has an excess of power generation with a view to exporting to the EU, maybe that is not such a big deal.
Equally I wonder how sorry Moscow is to see the end of a lot of the antique industialised cr*p in Eastern Ukraine. The mayor, or whatever, of Mariupol has already said that the will not rebuild the very unecological Azovstal steel works. They certainly will be very glad not to have to take the political rap for closing the 1 km deep coal mines in Donbass that were losing money hand over fist. They are apparently now flooded and unrecoverable. Oh dear… Russia, on the other hand, will welcome the skilled labour force with open arms.

Zaluzhny recently had a very short interview. He seemd fine, although not in top shpe.
I wrote about that. It was no “interview.” There was no back-and-forth conversation. It was literally a few seconds, in an unknown location, just Zaluzhny and some second-tier blogger. It could have been a deepfake, or, it could have been all he could handle, just those few seconds. You need to go back and read my recent stuff, at least.

Zaluzhny closely resembles someone who has been exposed to too many kilos of tnt equivalents. The childlike smile, a somehow misplaced semblance of reality…implies his cranium has been scrambled.
Other physical damage need not be required. Of course, on the other hand, other medical means could achieve the same symptoms and results in just a rear area clinical environment.

The soldiers appear to be equipped with WW2 vintage headgear, uniforms and weapons. I say it’s a shot not from a video game but a war movie and you are having a little fun with us to see if we catch on. Maybe you can post a shot from one of the Metro video games, they did after all have a Fourth Reich Azov Battalion style fascist group and it’s my favorite series of first person shooter games. I just don’t know, man. What I do know is, Russia is playing the reasonable player to a global audience of the 80% of humanity that supports Russia, and thus, it has not yet done anything truly rash (such as, blowing up international pipelines, or rather openly targeting civilian opinion leaders.)
I think the 80% pro-Russian world have now seen this war for what it is, and would fully understand if Russia upped it’s game at this point.
I fear the dam incident bodes terribly for other places like Odessa, scorched earth is the way forward. I think Ukro-Nasties will destroy the place as it has historical significance for Russia. The leadership don’t care they will eventually exit Ukraine with their millions to live elsewhere, they may as well take out their rage on ethnic Russian areas to give themselves some sort of sick satisfaction.
I was wondering how the flooding will impact the ‘land bridge’ that was planned all the way to Transnistria. Surely this is a no go for a very long time now.
I don’t think the Russians “planned a land bridge to Transnistria.” It may happen if the fighting continues, but at least according to what Putin said at last year’s Valdai Club, the Russians were prepared to let Ukraine keep Odessa, if Kyiv agrees to a peace deal.
However, as the situation evolves, that may change. I think blowing up the dam actually forces Russia to go all the way to Transnistria because without the water from the dam farming in Crimea, Kherson and Zaporizhzha will be badly affected. The Russians can’t even start to repair the dam if they don’t control both sides. But if they do cross the river, they’ll have to go all the way to Transnistria to avoid being caught in a small pocket of land that would be hard to supply across the river.
If it’s worth anything, I think that “the defending team” is still bigger danger for your grandmother (as long as she stays away from potential Russian targets).
The Russians aren’t raging psychopaths like the Americans, if the US were fighting Ukraine you can bet that a hell of a lot of civilians would have died by now, with copius amounts of depleted uranium dust wafting across the place to poison the population for the forseeable future. Their post WW2 history is littered with conflicts resulting in massive civilian deaths and suffering running into millions dead.
